When we decide to sort through our things and try to decide what we want to keep or what not to keep, you know as well as I do, it’s not an easy task. It can be one of the most difficult things to do while organizing your home, because of sentimental value the item may present or it may be that the item is in too good of shape to toss.
Whatever the reason may be, there is a solution to this dilemma and it’s sharing. You don’t have to toss perfectly good items; you can give them away to friends, family, charities, and other organizations that you may hold a special place in your heart.
Here are some great ways to de-clutter your home by the means of sharing.
Making the list
You will want to start by making a list of all the places that you want to send the items you don’t want anymore. This list can have family members, friends, charities, re-sale shops, and any other organizations that may benefit from the items you’re donating.
Who’s on the list
Note down the items that each person in your family may want, for instance, Sally, your sister, may want all the books that you are getting rid of. While Craig, your friend from work, may want all those music CDs that you don’t have room for anymore.
For the clothes that you can’t seem to find a home for because nobody you know will fit the size, you can take them to re-sale shops and second-hand stores. Just note all the items you’re giving away and place the name of the person you want to give them to.
You can make a call to your community’s waste management department and ask them if they will send you some information on recycling options. Also call around for charities and ask if they have the option of pick up, and what the schedule will be for drop-offs. You will also need to know what type of items they will and will not accept.
You don’t want to pack up a bunch of stuff and find out when you get there that they don’t accept that particular item. Find out all the facts before you start packing, you don’t want to end up with a sore back and a soar mood.
E-bay is a great way to unload your unwanted items and even make a little extra money at the same time. Just log on to Ebay.com and learn how to register for an account and read up on how to list your items and sell them.
I have done this exact same thing and I can tell you, it’s my favorite way to get rid of unwanted things, and have some extra money to buy a few things you may need and want. Just make sure you’re not starting the cluttering process all over again when buying on E-bay, it can get very addicting.
Sharing is a great way to dispense of all your unwanted items, and a great step towards moving them on their way so you can better organize the things that you are keeping. The greatest thing about sharing is you can do this again and again for as long as you need.
